The English Oak (quercus robur) and the Ash (fraxinus) are the two most common trees found here. Oak is a favourite of many invertebrates and birds; the Ash is a favourite of foresters (it burns well, even when green). Other species also grow well in the clay soils we have here, including the Alder (alnus), Willow (salix), Silver Birch (betula) and Beech (fagus).
