Remember, the difference between a sedge and a grass; ‘sedges have edges’, the stems are largely triangular and solid. Grasses generally have stems that are hollow and round. Either way, there are many different species. The one best avoided in the Summer is the pendulous sedge (Carex pendula), found extensively in the woodland. They tend to be the home to the tick, which is becoming more common and may carry Lyme disease.
