Oval, purple-tinged evergreen leaves that grow in a rosette from the base of the plant, with smaller leaves growing up the flower spike.

Densely packed small purple flowers sprout from between leaves on the flower spike. Protruding stamen and shaped like skirted ladies, with faint stripes.
