Widespread in the UK, it can commonly be found growing in hedgerows, scrub and woodland.

Shiny and divided into five or seven lobes. They turn yellow before falling in the autumn.

Sweet smelling with five white (occasionally pink) petals, grown in flat topped clusters.

Deep red fruits develop in the autumn known as haws.
