A medium sized, slender species with a black nose, white chin and white tailless rump. Bucks (adult males) have short antlers with up to three points, which are shed and regrown every year. Both sexes have red-brown fur in summer, fading to grey-brown in winter.

A native species, Roe deer are widespread in Scotland and England, although less common in Wales, the Midlands and Southern England.
